TWIS#6

This week in science, we worked with crickets, and also with jelly beans. On 12/5/11(lesson 2: cricket investigation) we had two parts to our lesson. For  part 1 we had to do background research, including ten peaces of information on crickets. When doing part 2 we had to write down "Two Choice" experiments. Then on 12/6/11 (lesson 3: Data day: Crickets) we observed the crickets in groups, and had to make a poster, on weather they prefer the wet or dry sides of their tank. On 12/8/11 (lesson 4: Jelly Bean)

Cricket investigation

Do Crickets Prefer Fruit or Vegetables?

Hypothesis: The crickets will be neutral towards them both, because, in nature they have no choice between fruit or vegetable.

Background Research: -Crickets feed on almost anything. ( usually organic things, if nothing organic is available, they will eat their own dead species.)
-Adult Females Have: Long ovipositor ( ventrally attached, it may appear as two pieces)
-Immature Crickets: Look like adults, but don't have fully developed wings.
-Predators of crickets: Spiders, some wasps, ground beetles, birds, small rodents, and lizards.

TWIS

                                               THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE

This week in science we used poppers, and also researched and planted Brassica rapa. For the poppers warm up we had to ask at least  three questions about them.Than we had vocabulary on testible questions, independant variables, and dependant variables. After that we made a list of independant and dependant varriables and asked more questions then asked more questions(10/11/11). For the Brassica rapa's research warm up we had to write down what we would have done differently in our last plant invstigation. We spent the rest of th period researching the plant than we wrote three facts about it(10/12/11). for the planting of the Brasica rapa's warm up we, we had to list at least five independant variables we can change in our second plant investigation than we worked in our  groups to plant it.

                                                     THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE

This week in science we continued our plant investigation and also worked in groups to create different types of graphs based on what other students answered,to the specific question asked by the group members.for the plant investigation we would measure how tall the plants got since the last time we watered/measured them. When we worked in groups we filled in the graphs based on the infomation we received.

This week in science #1

This week in science we had three lessons. Our first lesson was on setting up our notebooks, starting to design our cover page, and observing plants. Our second lesson was to take the Marshmallow Challenge, and to record it in our notebooks. My group the "Ninjas" didn't get our structure to stand up, because, we didn't build a base. If we did the Marshmallow challenge again i think more people would get their structures to stand because, we would have learned from what we did wrong the first time. Our third lesson was to, plant our first seed, and record it into our notebook. We learned about what a variable is, we also took a quiz, than wrote down the TWIS.
